Hope for Cody Miller

Author’s Note:  This is prediction for a short story that we read in the reading lab.  I am going to work on my grammar, explaining why I thought what I thought. I want the readers to make sure that this writing piece makes sense.

“Hello sir, would you like to purchase a horse” asked the salesperson.

“ Yes I would” says Cody Miller.

“Well, alright then; let’s find you a horse.”

Cody followed the salesperson all the way to the back of the farm.  You could buy almost buy anything at this place, they have cows, chickens, pigs and even goats.  There were about twenty  horses to choose from.  Cody walked around for a while  before choosing one the one that was light brown with very few back spots.

“I’ll take this one” Cody said with his hands tightly across the reins.

“That will cost $17 Mr. Miller”  said the salesperson.

Cody could so tell that he was getting ripped off, he only had $56 and subtracting 17 from that would give him $39.  Though once he traveled east to Milwaukee, he could sell that big piece of jewelry for $120, he would then be one of the richest men in the Midwest.

“Fine, I’ll take that horse” said Cody in great disbelief.

So with the gold hook in his hand,  Cody and his horse started the great travel 70 miles east  to the biggest trading post in the Midwest.  When they were only five miles in the journey, he stopped and thought about something.

“Why am I doing this?  This old man asked me to make sure that he gets buried with the big gold piece.  And of course,  I am holding it in my hand trying to sell it in Milwaukee. “I have to go back.”

So Cody Miller began to head back to where he started his journey, it was going to take a good half day to get back to Marshall.  But Cody was determined to do the right thing which was to bring the gold hook back to the old man.

“Hey look, its Cody”  one of the towns people screamed once they saw him back into town.

“Yes, it’s me” Cody said, wondering why all of the sudden he would get all of this respect.

Cody continued though the town and into the woods where the old man’s coffin was.   It took Cody a long time to find it, but once he did I was just getting dark.  So Cody decided to create a fire and rest for the night and dig up the coffin tomorrow and place the gold hook in it then.

Tomorrow

The glowing sun rises on a beautiful morning in Marshall, Wisconsin.   Cody rides into town to the local diner to get some breakfast.  The popular place in town was Sandy’s but for some odd reason, they were closed.  So the only place to go was Dale’s with the wet toast and uncooked eggs.  Cody sat down right away and ordered some waffles with milk.  Though there were only three other people there, his food took over 35 minutes before his it was brought to him.  At that time Cody bit into the waffle.  I was hard to chew but it managed to go down.  Cody  then washed it down with the spoiled milk that they gave him.

“Here is the bill sir.” said the waiter.

“Thank you, (Cody takes a sip of milk) $12, that is a crazy prices for this piece of crap” Cody barked as he brought it up to the front so he could pay.

Cody paid and left, he rode back into the woods and found the old man’s coffin.  He grabbed the nail taker outer and slowly took all of the nails out of the wood so he could open the coffin.  The old man’s body is completely decomposed and all that was left where his bones.  Cody gently placed the gold hook into his coffin, took  one last look and closed it.  Cody put the nails back in and once that was done he put it back in the hole that was dug and covered it.  He knew that he did the right thing, even though it cost him some money he was proud of himself.  Cody rode out of the woods and out of town to Milwaukee where he would start now life, plus to trade his horse.
