Bad Behaviors lead to Bad Results

Author’s Note:  This writing piece is on the cause and effect of  Touching Spirit Bear.  I am going to analyze the causes of an event in the story, and what the effect of it was.  I am going to focus on be format of this kind of writing.

Ever since Cole was a little kid, he has been beaten by his dad.  His grandpa beat his dad and his dad is beating him.  It is the only thing his dad really knew, and that is only what Cole knew.  As a teenager Cole was expressing his anger in violent forms such as beating other kids and playing pranks and so on.  One night  Cole robed a store, he took a lot and tells no one for a few days.  But when he does, a guy named Peter Driscal  finds out and tells on him.  Cole responds by slamming Peter’s skull into the cement.  Those actions are the cause of his banishment, and no one in the town will ever forgive him.

Due to his awful behavior, the effect was that Cole is banished for one year on an island out in Alaska.  He is in charge of living on his own in the wilderness with limited supplies.  He is told to think about what he had done and how he can fix things.  At first, Cole is unhappy and does want to live there, he tries to escape and kill the spirit bear; none of which went well.  He ends up suffering very bad wounds and needed to go to the hospital.  Due to that, he had more time to think.  When he goes back to the island, he changes.  The people who were along with him; Edwin and Gravy noticed major differences  in him.  Cole ended up changing, but it just took time.

If Cole was never beaten by his dad, none of this would have ever happened.  Today we rely on our parents to help us and guide us through the tough decisions during childhood.  We look up to our parents, and if they make bad decisions; guess what we do, we make bad decisions.  Our parents influence us in so many ways. So if Cole did not have had a  bad influence in his household , then he might have been a good kid.

  1. I think that it is good. I liked the way that you told the story. You told it with out giving out to much information. You told just enough for the reader and nothing more.
