A/B Transitions - Self Check Skills

Author’s Note:  This is another self-check skill that I am attempting to master.  I am going to be practicing the skill of using A/B transitions in a writing piece. I am going to write  a few sentences to introduce my topic before I go straight into it. My goal is to master this skill.

Topic:  Historic NBA Franchises

There are only a few franchises that can be called historic.  You need to have had several hall of fame players who have multiple MVP awards.  Plus you need the championships, that is the biggest necessity for a historic franchise.

The Boston Celtics have long been a historic franchise since they were founded.  They have won an NBA record 17 titles since they were founded in 1946.  Along with the NBA titles, they have won the Eastern Conference 21 times, the most recent being in 2010.  There was a time in the 1950s when the Celtics were the most dominant team in the NBA, between 1957 and 1969  they won 12 titles in 13 years. Several hall of famers have played for the Boston Celtics:  Bill Russell, Bob Cousy, John  Havlicek, Larry Bird, and many more.  The Celtics have retired over twenty numbers during their history.  The Celtics currently have a crop of players that could possibly raise another banner or two in the next five years (Boston Celtics ).

Besides the Boston Celtics, another historic NBA franchise is the Los Angeles Lakers.  The Lakers have won 16 titles during their history.  That number is only one behind the Boston Celtics.  The Lakers have won the Western Conference 31 times.  With the most recent being in 2010.  Many hall of fame players have played for the Lakers some of the more historic names are: Jerry West, Magic Johnson,  Shaquille O’Neal, Elgin Baylor, Wilt Chamberlain and many others. The Lakers also have Kobe Bryant who will be a hall of famer once he retires.  The Lakers didn’t have a dominant time like the Celtics did, but they did win several titles in a row in the early 1950’s and early 2000’s.  In their history, the Lakers have only retired a few numbers, with those retired numbers being for the players who are in the hall of fame (Los Angeles Lakers ).

Topic:  Major Cities

A city is where major events occur. Whether they are parties or sporting events, or even gatherings, many of these happen in the biggest cities in the country.  Also, big cities have major attractions that make them popular.  Some examples are Los Angeles with the Hollywood Sign, Orlando with their Disney World Complex and Seattle which has the Space Needle.

New York City is arguably one of the best cities in the country. New York has so many attractions to offer to its visitors such as: Statue of Liberty, Central Park, Empire State Building, and many more. New York City is home to many great sports teams. The world famous Madison Square Garden is located in downtown New York.  Home of the New York Knicks and Rangers, Madison Square Garden has hosted many entertaining sporting events in its history. Time Square is also a major attraction in New York City. Time Square has dozens of digital billboards that are always advertising something.  Plus it is known for the Broadway theaters and cinemas.   It is the most electric place in New York City.  Time Square is known as part of  New York City that never sleeps  (New York City Attractions ).

While New York City is considered the Big Apple, Chicago has a life of its own. Located in the upper Midwest, Chicago is the largest city in this region.  An iconic building in Chicago is the Willis Tower.  The Willis Tower is the second tallest building in the western hemisphere.   Like New York City, Chicago is home to many successful sports teams like the Chicago Bulls and Blackhawks.  A popular tourist attraction in Chicago is Navy Pier.  Located over Lake Michigan, Navy Pier has a small amusement park with shops and restaurants to explore.  Chicago also has a Six Flags, located in Gurnee Six Flags also provides fun for the whole family.
