A Harsh Winter Night

Author’s Note:  This is a creative piece about a harsh winters night. I really do not write poetry that often so  I would appreciate feedback on what I can improve on.  I am working on word choice and voice in this poem.

Flakes fall in different shapes and sizes
Wow, I can barely believe my eyes
I run outside to have some fun
But the sun is down
And night has come

The tree is light, bright and glowing
I can hardly see as it is still snowing
I sit and stare for hours to come
But the night has only just begun

The wind picks up, just a little at first
But it eventually becomes a giant burst
Eventually the trees can’t take it all
An immense oak that night,  took a great fall

As the day ends there is no more light
The tree is now out of sight
Inside it is as dark as night
This night I will sleep tight
Knowing that it is as dark as night
